WEBINAR WEDNESDAY - BLUE LIGHT LEGAL UPDATE

Wednesday 2 September 2020

In our latest webinar, Andrew Steel, Partner at Plexus Law, provides analysis of three important areas relating to civil actions against the police. The first considers the recent Court of Appeal case of Bridges and the use of automated facial recognition technology. Andrew discusses the practical ramifications that now face police forces looking to use this technology in the future.

Second, the often discussed issue of QOCS is again on the agenda following the Brown v Commissioner decision last year. How does the 'mixed claim' exception to QOCS serve to assist police forces when defending civil actions made against them which involve a personal injury and non-personal injury element?

Third, Andrew looks at the 2018 decision in Sherratt which has hugely significant ramifications for all emergency services – given that it sets out clear guidance as to when there is an assumption of responsibility created between caller and call handler.
