The talk will focus on the prevalence of historic building fires across Scotland following the most recent significant fire events at Union Street in Glasgow and Princes Street in Edinburgh that impacted the city centre and numerous businesses across multiple sectors. We will look at the themes and trends of these high-profile fires, along with the claims challenges that ensued such as the spread of the fire, multiple ownership issues, building regulations, listed buildings, action by building control, prolongation of the works and cost implications, under-insurance, indemnity periods as well as cover extensions including denial of access and loss of attraction. The talk will be of interest to all insurance professionals with many of these events directly impacting or relevant to local authorities.
