Session 4 - Risk appetite - nice theory or practical tool?

1.30pm – 2.15pm BST, 22 May 2026 ‐ 45 mins

Session

In this session Ruth will share her experience of researching and working with the concept of risk appetite across multiple sectors and organisations and interact with the attendees via Menti polls to explore what good risk appetite looks like, at Board and other levels. She will explore how to operationalise to enable local decision-making, and how assurance activities can be tailored and focused to bring risk appetite to life. This session will incorporate the understanding that different parts of the Health and Social Care system have different experiences and maturity when thinking about risk appetite, and is an opportunity to share and learn and go away with some practical ideas of things to do differently.
