Session
Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn Hett - tragically killed in the Manchester Arena attack in 2017 - had campaigned over many years for a new law to better protect the public in the event of a terror attack. Now Martyn’s Law is finally a reality. The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act received Royal Assent in April 2025 but will take effect in April 2027. During this time, organisations, including public authorities, that manage and operate public venues and events will be required to take steps to reduce their vulnerability to terrorist attacks and understand their new responsibilities. Experts will explore the new Act, which premises and events it applies to, and the practical steps that public authorities need to be considering.
