6: Firework control zones

9.30am – 10.15am GMT, 4 November 2025 ‐ 45 mins

Room: Hermitage-Iona Suite

Session

Firework control zones in Scotland are designated areas where it is illegal to ignite fireworks, aimed at reducing antisocial behaviour and protecting vulnerable groups.

It has been necessary to introduce this to address public concern and the Scottish Government considered it a ‘key milestone in the journey towards a cultural change in Scotland's relationship with fireworks’.

The session will explore what this means for Scottish Authority clients, examine the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022, the reasons for the implementation of this legislation, how this will impact Scottish Authorities, the impact of the process of clients, the restrictions that can be imposed and the effectiveness of their application.
