Andy will discuss the group actions by Student Group Claim for damages arising from poor student experiences during the COVID pandemic and the reputed £21.25m settlement of c. 5,000 claims against UCL. With claims having been intimated against 36 universities, and more likely to be added, the session will also consider some of the reasons why universities may be more exposed to these claims than others and whether or not the UCL settlement will become a blueprint for all future settlements.
Andy has over 30 years’ experience and specialises in defending claims made against universities, schools and colleges, a high proportion of which are discrimination claims. Andy’s caseload often involves highly sensitive and emotive cases and those with the potential for significant reputational damage.
