Are you passionate about helping to make public services safer, stronger, and more effective?
We’re looking for a proactive and analytical Risk Officer to join our Risk, Assurance and Audit team, helping to protect public funds, improve services, and support sound decision-making across Nottingham City Council.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping how the Council identifies and manages risk, supporting teams to work confidently and collaboratively while ensuring we deliver the very best for our citizens.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the delivery and development of the Council’s risk management strategy and frameworks
- Working closely with services to identify, assess and mitigate operational and strategic risks
- Helping to maintain and review Directorate and Service Risk Registers and facilitate regular risk reviews
- Presenting and discussing key risks with senior leaders and providing expert advice and assurance
- Supporting, training and advising managers and risk owners through workshops and best-practice guidance
- Collaborating with colleagues across Internal Audit, Counter Fraud, and Insurance to strengthen governance and assurance
- Promoting a culture of integrity, transparency, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
About you
- A solid understanding of risk management principles and techniques
- Enjoys collaborating with others to find practical, creative solutions
- Is confident using data and digital tools (e.g. SharePoint) to analyse and communicate insights
- Has relevant experience working within a risk management environment (ideally in local government)
- Can deliver clear, engaging presentations and facilitate discussions with senior leaders
- Values equality, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in everything you do.
A relevant qualification in risk management or a related field would be an advantage.
