We have seen an unprecedented increase in claims being raised against landlords for alleged breaches of their repairing obligations. Further to changes in the law, landlords are now at a greater risk for matters which historically may not have been actionable and could be linked to the manner in which a property is used. These pressures have intensified by the stance of those regulating the sector and increased living costs and fuel prices. Matthew Lake, Principal Associate at Weightmans will explore the legal framework, the risks posed and actions landlords can take to protect themselves from future claims.
