Surrey County Council are constantly looking for innovations that can assist in providing efficiencies in service delivery, reducing their carbon footprint, provide safer working conditions for staff and where possible provide financial savings. The project to automate pothole detection is on its way to achieving all of these objectives.

Their journey to automate pothole detection began in 2019 when they were approached by an independent company to run a “Hackathon” event in order to address some areas for improvement in their Service, so they decided that they really need this focus to be on their Reactive Service.

Surrey County Council are making good progress and are excited to share the benefits of using AI within their operations.
